It is not a plug-in hybrid; instead, it is a self-charging hybrid system, which means the battery is charged via regenerative braking and via the petrol engine when needed.
Powertrain & Driving Modes
Under the hood is a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine, paired with two electric motors (one traction motor, one generator motor).
The system uses a gearless e-CVT transmission (electrically-coupled CVT) with an engine-linked clutch.
Combined power output is about 126 PS and combined torque of 253 Nm (electric motor torque) in the 0-3,000 rpm band.
There are three primary drive modes:
EV Drive – runs purely on electric motor when battery is charged enough and driving conditions allow. Silent, zero-emissions at that moment.
